A young festival-goer was taken to hospital after a bungee jumping accident at the Szeged Youth Days (SZIN) festival in southern Hungary on Friday night.
Almost fatal accident at Hungarian festival
The incident happened at the festival’s bungee jumping attraction at around 11 PM, with witnesses reporting that the participant encountered difficulties after being pulled back upwards by the elastic rope.
According to reports by RTL Híradó and local media, the rope became tangled around the young man’s neck during the jump. This particular detail has not been officially confirmed by authorities, however.
Bungee jumping rope reportedly wrapped around jumper’s neck
The participant had the bungee cord attached to his legs before being lifted in a basket by a crane to the jumping platform. He then jumped from the elevated basket.
The elastic rope stretched during the initial fall before pulling the jumper back upwards. According to witness accounts, the rope then became entangled around his body and neck, repeatedly pulling him up and down.
The incident prompted the festival’s on-site medical team to intervene immediately. Additional ambulance units were subsequently called to the scene, and the young man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Festival organisers say no serious injuries were found
SZIN organisers said the participant had been involved in an “unfortunate jump” and suffered an accident. The organisers remained in contact with his friends throughout the night.
At around 2 AM, they were informed that the hospital examinations had produced negative results and that the young man had been discharged. The incident occurred at the festival’s Partfürdő venue, where emergency services were also seen arriving at the scene.
Police launch investigation
Hungarian police have launched proceedings over suspected negligent endangerment in connection with an occupational activity. The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances of the accident and whether safety procedures surrounding the bungee jumping attraction were properly followed.
Despite the potentially serious nature of the incident, the participant was able to leave hospital without serious injuries, according to the information provided by the festival organisers.
