A child was seriously injured after being hit by a tram at Batthyány Square in Budapest on Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters used hydraulic lifting equipment and a spreader cutter to free the boy from underneath the vehicle before handing him over to paramedics. He was reportedly revived and taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The accident happened at Batthyány Square in Budapest on Wednesday afternoon, when a tram struck a young boy, leaving him trapped underneath the vehicle. The Budapest professional firefighters who arrived at the scene carried out a technical rescue operation to reach the child.
Using hydraulic lifting equipment and a spreader cutter, the firefighters raised the tram and freed the boy from underneath the carriage. Once he had been brought out, the child was placed on a stretcher and handed over to the ambulance crew.

Boy taken to hospital in life-threatening condition
According to Hungary’s National Ambulance Service, the child was successfully resuscitated following the accident. He was then transported to hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Photos published by the Zsaruhírek Facebook page show emergency crews working around the tram during the rescue operation. Following the rescue, firefighters also returned the tram to the tracks. The exact circumstances of the accident have not yet been disclosed.
