A brand-new direct air connection is set to bring Türkiye’s capital closer to Hungarian travellers than ever before. Wizz Air has announced a new non-stop route between Budapest and Ankara, making the Turkish capital directly accessible from Hungary for the very first time.

Budapest now directly connected to Türkiye’s capital

The new service will operate three times a week — on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays — significantly strengthening travel links between the two countries while opening up an entirely new destination for Hungarian passengers.

With the launch of the route, Ankara joins Istanbul and Antalya among the Turkish cities available via direct flights from Budapest, further expanding the growing network between Hungary and Türkiye.

According to data from Budapest Airport, more than 900,000 direct airline seats are available annually between Hungary and Türkiye. Despite this strong traffic, there has until now been no direct connection between the two capitals.

The new route fills a long-standing gap in the market. More than 10,000 passengers previously travelled between Budapest and Ankara each year only via connecting flights. A significant proportion of travellers on the route are expected to be business passengers, with roughly one in three travellers flying for work-related purposes — underlining Ankara’s growing economic and political importance.

But Ankara is far more than just a business hub. As the political and cultural heart of modern Türkiye, the city offers visitors a fascinating mix of history and contemporary urban life. Travellers can explore iconic landmarks such as Anıtkabir, the final resting place of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, alongside the renowned Museum of Anatolian Civilisations and the historic Ankara Castle district. Meanwhile, the modern parts of the city boast lively restaurants, shopping centres and vibrant nightlife.

The direct flight also makes Ankara an ideal gateway for exploring Türkiye’s interior regions. From the capital, travellers can easily reach Cappadocia, famous for its extraordinary rock formations, cave churches and world-renowned hot-air balloon experiences.

The new Budapest–Ankara connection is therefore more than simply another flight route. It offers Hungarian travellers the chance to discover a lesser-known yet highly influential side of Türkiye — now easier to reach than ever, without the need for a stopover.
