Cardinal Erdő launches preparations for 2020 International Eucharistic Congress
Cardinal Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, on Whit Monday opened a three-year programme of preparations for the 2020 International Eucharistic Congress to be hosted by Hungary.
The cardinal said the aim of the event would be “to strengthen our own faith in the Eucharist and show the world the strength of Catholic conviction”.
The congress will be a meeting of the faithful with each other and with their broader environment, with Jesus Christ himself standing in the centre of all of that, he said.
Hungary will be the venue of the congress for the second time, with the first held here in 1938.
