China, US exports boost Kecskemet Mercedes output, says manager
Budapest (MTI) – The Kecskemet Mercedes-Benz plant will raise its output further this year, mainly thanks to increasing exports to China and the United States, plant manager Thomas Geier said in an interview to MTI on Friday.
The plant in central Hungary turned out 150,000 cars last year, he noted, adding that demand for the CLA and the Shooting Brake models, manufactured exclusively at Kecskemet, is rising in both countries.
The decision to ramp up production via efficiency gains and a third shift was made last September.
Daimler launched production of B-Class models at the plant in Hungary in March 2012. It started making CLA models in January 2013 and the CLA Shooting Brake rolled off the Kecskemet production line in January this year.
Geier said the company plans to replace some supplies from Germany and other countries with local suppliers near the plant.
