County towns take over libraries, museums
Budapest (MTI) – The ownership of properties housing county libraries and museums has been transferred to cities with a county status from the Hungarian state, Peter Hoppal, state secretary for culture, said on Wednesday.
Speaking at an event in the local museum of Veszprem in western Hungary, Hoppal said that a total 152 buildings were transferred under the law which had taken effect on July 1. He said that municipal ownership of the properties would enable simpler procedures for renovation or upgrading the buildings, as well as easier access to community funds.
Hoppal noted that in the first half of 2015, the government had helped museums and other facilities for exhibitions with a total 506 million forints (EUR 1.64m).
