Danube walkway and leisure park at Budafok is planned to be opened to the public by the end of this month. The renovated area includes the waterfronts of the River Danube and a freshly created green zone, ideal for sports activities and outdoor games.

The shoreline used to be an important sports centre; however, in the last few decades, its utilisation decreased significantly. Hence, in 2015, the local government decided to reconstruct and modernise the area. Residents could also participate in the project by handing in their own proposals. Taking these into consideration, final plans were prepared at the beginning of 2018. The inauguration ceremony will be held in June, on the official celebration day of District 22.

As pestbuda.hu describes, the region is a nature reserve of Natura 2000; therefore, protecting the environment was prioritised throughout the whole project. Consequently, natural ambience and biodiversity have been preserved.

Multifunctional sports fields, new cycle routes and a street workout park will be available along the waterfronts, which is the most popular area for sports fans, especially runners and cyclists. Besides these, children can enjoy the modernised playground, including three springboards and several jungle gyms.

The purpose of the project is to strengthen human-nature relationships by providing a green oasis in the city that people visit to relax and disconnect themselves from daily stress.
