Dream Machines in Budapest – Oldtimer Weekend
From the 11th of April 2014 until the 13th of April, Hungarian Railway Museum (Magyar Vasúttörténeti Park) will hold a much- anticipated event – Oldtimer weekend. This year organizers definitely aim to impress the visitors.
All the exhibition rooms and the entire park of the museum will go through an amazing transformation in order to recreate an atmosphere and décor of the pervious decades, may be even centuries. All that will be done with a single purpose – to enhance the bold allure of the old-timer vehicles, motorbikes, steam engines and even train cars. The engine sheds will be also used as an exhibition space, to present a unique selection of antique cars, which will vary every day.
Visitors are expecting contemplation; first of all, something truly genius like an old-timer engine holds its beauty forever. Secondly, there will be an intriguing twist – complementary opposition of the veteran cars to the “boats, caravans, and other leisure vehicles and equipment, as well as the latest models of cars, mini vans, motorbikes, quad bikes, bicycles, hunting and fishing equipment” of the Leisure exhibition, held during the same time in the Hungarian Railway Museum. Thirdly, all the hostesses will be wearing costumes defining the era of the vehicle that they introduce.
Apart from the handful of classic models of cars, steam engines and train cars, there will be several models celebrating modern technologies. This year’s exhibition promises a string of interactive opportunities for everyone: visitors can have tangible emotions of climbing up to the cockpit of a vintage Truman steam engine, take a ride on the horse-drawn omnibus, encounter with a garden railway.
This exhibition is definitely a great opportunity for adults to admire a phenomenal craftsmanship of the old-timer vehicles, try some of the exquisite Hungarian palinka or wine and sample different types of chocolate; toddlers will also find this to be a very special occasion – they can play with each other on the folkloric playgrounds, try an old-fashioned vursli, visit a train models exhibition, meet some of the fairy-tale characters and even get a free face painting. The old-timer exhibition is perfect for those, who always wanted to experience a magic of the time travelling but never thought it could be possible.
