Hungarian police have launched an extensive search for an 81-year-old German national who disappeared from his home near Tapolca on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Veszprém County Police Headquarters, Martin Hofer left his home in the outskirts of Lesenceistvánd, near Tapolca, shortly after 3:00 PM on Tuesday, 28 July, and has not been seen since.

German man struggles with orientation and does not speak Hungarian

Police say the missing man has difficulty orienting himself in both time and place, raising concerns for his safety. He also does not speak Hungarian, which could make it more difficult for him to ask for assistance.

At the time of his disappearance, Martin Hofer was wearing:

  • a dark blue jacket,
  • light blue jeans,
  • and brown slippers.

Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances of his disappearance but are urging the public to remain vigilant.

Police appeal for public assistance

The Tapolca Police Department is asking anyone who may have seen the German man or has information about his whereabouts to come forward immediately.

Anyone with relevant information can report it in person at the Tapolca Police Department (2 Ady Endre Street, Tapolca) or by calling +36 30 227 3744.

Anonymous reports can also be made 24 hours a day via Hungary’s Telefontanú (Witness Hotline) on +36 80 555 111, or through the emergency number 112.

Police stress that even seemingly minor information could help locate the missing man safely.
