Foreign Minister Anita Orbán discussed the European Union’s enlargement timeline with Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, in Budapest on Friday.
In a post on Facebook, Orbán noted that the European Commission will present its proposals for enlargement reforms at the end of September. The European Council will address enlargement in October, followed by the publication of the annual Enlargement Package, with member states setting the direction for the next period in December, she said.
“The Western Balkan countries have waited too long for EU membership,” Orbán said. “Montenegro and Albania have made significant progress, so the European Union must continue to advance their accession processes.”

Meanwhile, the minister said that regarding Ukraine, she had reaffirmed that Kyiv needed to take concrete steps to secure the rights of the ethnic Hungarian community in Transcarpathia in order for Hungary to support the opening of further accession clusters.
