Thomas Geier, the new director of the Mercedes factory, got introduced to the press who said that this year already 145 000 car could be produced in Kecskemét working in three shifts from May, delmagyar.hu reports.
Thomas Geier started working for Daimler in 1985 and his line was quality management. Since then, when the decision was made, he has been in good contact with Kecskemét. He would like to continue his success story. His two daughters stay in Germany but his wife will arrive soon. He is a fan of Oldtimers and likes to dance and to go on trips.
According to delmagyar.hu, he referred to the bomb threat: “We cannot afford the undermining of the reputation of the factory and Hungary. We are keeping in close touch with the authorities; the most important is the safety of our colleagues.” The new director mentioned that in 25 of January in 2013 the CLA, produced only in Hungary, was launched, and in June the 100th piece of Mercedes was finished, actually a model made to Hungarian order. The car received the highest honours worldwide, in the USA young customers “storming” the shops. 7700 CLA was vended in the first four months of this year only.
Mr.Geier emphasized that the Mercedes is the 2nd most popular employer in Hungary. He talked about the visitor’s centre and they are expecting 20 000 visitors until the end of the year. He highlighted the introduction of dual training in Hungary in which the Mercedes was pioneer. He also attended to such college in Germany and graduated from structural engineering and vehicle engineering.
The first apprentices are graduating this year in the city, the exams are being done in these days. All of them will get job offers and possibility for further education – said the director who emphasized that the first tool plant outside of Germany was put into operation in Kecskemét and this also flexibly helps the German factories, too.
Ekkehard Philipp Manager of Finance first spoke about the social responsibility. In the field of sport the supplies are supported. The previously made contract was prolonged. “We are proud of our colleges’ voluntary social engagement.”
He said numbers, too: near 110 000 car was produced in Kecskemét in 2013 and nowadays more than 3500 people work in the Hungarian factory. In 2013 the net income of the sales was 2.1 billion Euros while new investments were carried out. Among other things, a new tool production facility was opened for 5 million Euros in Kecskemét. Besides incomes, he mentioned that they paid 5 million Euros as business tax for Kecskemét.
Ingo Fröchlich, manager of Mercedes-Benz Hungária Kft. responsible for sales, also started with the numbers. With the big ones: The Mercedes, worldwide, had an 117 billion Euro turnover. More than 1.5 million car was vended thus this is the fastest growing premium brand. – In the name of “best or nothing” we would like to be the Number 1 players, so 270 000 people are working with Mercedes worldwide – he said. He talked about BarényiBéla to whom the crumple zones we can thank. The revolution of passive safety started out of it.
We learned that more than 5 million Euros turned into research and development while the most valuable brand in the field of car industry is the Mercedes. He proudly mentioned that of the Mercedes vended worldwide every tenth piece is produced in Kecskemét. “It is a pleasure to sell these vehicles, the customers tear them out of our hands”
Delmagyar.hu said, in Hungary the fastest growing premium brand is also the Mercedes. 1587 cars were vended. This is a 28% of expansion compared to the year 2012. – 400 cars are already produced in Hungary so we can talk about the effects of Kecskemét on the sales – he said. “Concerning the bus segment it was also a record year in Hungary and in addition the world’s largest hybrid bus fleet is in Kecskemét.”
Answering the question, the director said that 145 000 model are in plan to produce after the 109 000 produced last year. The following year this number will be even bigger owing to the three shift year. The most modern factory in Europe is the one in Kecskemét thus it is not a problem to integrate the new model. He didn’t tell which one it will be but everyone guess in the trade press that it will be the “wagon” version of the CLA already produced here.
