On Wednesday evening, the easing of restrictions was presented first on the government information page and later in the Hungarian Gazette. 5.5 million vaccinated people will be another important milestone that brings another set of easements. Most people are happy that everything is slowly returning to normal, but according to a Hungarian toxicologist, Gábor Zacher, the war is not over yet.
Due to the high vaccination rate of the Hungarian population, the third wave of the coronavirus epidemic has officially ended in Hungary. The number of active infections and the number of daily deaths are constantly decreasing, as you can read on koronavirus.gov.hu. As a result, our lives increasingly resemble the pre-epidemic period. On the government information page, and later on in the Hungarian Gazette, the changes that will take effect once 5.5 million people receive the first vaccine were published.
Mandatory mask-wearing will be abolished everywhere except in hospitals and social institutions.
So, you do not even have to wear a mask in shops or on public transport. In addition, access to catering shops, accommodation and leisure facilities is no longer tied to an immunity certificate. Restrictions on stores will be lifted. In addition, universities and colleges may be preparing to restore offline education. The government took into account the results of the national consultation and the views of the Hungarian people in lifting the restrictions. Toxicologist Gábor Zacher, head of the Hatvan hospital, emphasised to index.hu:
protection develops 12-16 days after the second vaccination.
“Linking relief to the date of the first vaccination is not a professionally logical decision, since 5.5 million vaccinations do not mean that there are 5.5 million protected people. There may be a minimum level of protection after the first vaccination, but full safety will take 12-16 days to develop after the second vaccination. The problem is that the willingness to vaccinate has decreased, and a lot of people cannot explain why they have not taken the vaccine yet. So, at the hospital, when I ask why somebody has not received a vaccine yet, I get answers like ‘just because’, or ‘I don’t know’,” the toxicologist said.
Zacher thinks that the vaccination propaganda is not good in Hungary. He thinks the billboards are good, but information would be even better. If people understand how the vaccine works, and what it contains, the willingness to vaccinate will also increase. The goal is to achieve 8 million vaccinated people and thus herd immunity. Zacher added that
there is peace now, but due to the spread of virus mutants, we have to prepare for new battles.
