The agreement between Hungary’s MVM CEEnergy and Azerbaijan’s SOCAR will ensure the delivery of 100 million cubic meters of natural gas to Hungary before the end of the year, the minister of foreign affairs and trade said on Friday.
The agreement has further secured Hungarian energy security, Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook. Diversification means involving multiple sources to guarantee secure supplies, rather than “switching one dependency to another”, Szijjártó said. “The delivery starting now may be the foundation of a long-term agreement that could ensure 2 billion cubic meters of gas from the Caucasus to Hungary every year,” he added.
