Exciting free events in Hungary on 15 March, National Day
The 15th of March is celebrated as National Day in Hungary. In 1848, the Hungarian Civic Revolution and War of Independence began on this day, with the aim of ending Habsburg domination, and achieving independence and a constitutional state. This day has since become a symbol of the Hungarians’ desire for freedom.
A number of impressive events are organised across the country on this day. In this article, we have listed some special events that are not only exciting, but free as well.
Hungarian National Museum, Budapest
On this day, all National Day-related activities at the museum are available for free. People of all ages are guaranteed to find something to enjoy. For children, there will be craft activities and a variety of historical board games. Adults can enjoy free guided tours and guided architectural walks. Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum, Budapest
The museum building was a secret hospital during the Second World War. Located under Buda Castle, the hospital took care of hundreds of patients wounded during the war. The hospital also has a nuclear bunker around it, where many people were sheltered during the war. The permanent exhibition, which opened in 2007, offers a 60-minute guided tour showing the horrors of the war. It is important to note that children under the age of 6 are not allowed to visit the museum, and it is not recommended for children under 12.
