Hungary is set for a spell of largely sunny, settled weather this week, with daytime temperatures rising steadily and the first heatwave of the year taking hold. By Sunday afternoon, highs are expected to reach between 32C and 37C. Despite the sunshine, isolated showers and thunderstorms may still develop, according to a forecast issued by HungaroMet and released to the Hungarian news agency MTI on Sunday.

Sunshine to dominate

On Monday, thicker cloud associated with a departing front will gradually clear from the southern counties, giving way to widespread sunshine interspersed with high and cumulus cloud. Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible. Westerly winds will freshen at times, with occasional strong gusts. Afternoon temperatures will climb to between 20C and 26C, the Hungarian news agency wrote.

Tuesday will be largely sunny, with only limited high and cumulus cloud and a slight chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms, chiefly in the west. Westerly winds are expected to remain mostly moderate. Temperatures will range from 6C to 15C at dawn, rising to between 23C and 28C by afternoon.

On Wednesday, sunshine will again dominate, although cumulus cloud may become more pronounced in places, bringing the risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Winds will remain generally moderate from the west. Temperatures are forecast to range between 10C and 18C in the early morning and 25C to 30C later in the day.
