The National Railway Co., MÁV-Start Zrt. almost finished the implementation of wireless routers on 735 trains. This development will enable 50 million passangers a year to use the internet free on the trains, the MÁV said last Friday.
The service already available on the InterCity lines between Budapest and Miskolc, Debrecen, Nyíregyháza, Debrecen, Pécs, Szeged, Szombathely as well as in the agglomeration of Budapest.
The internet on board can be used by hundreds of passangers at the same time, so tens of thousands of people can spend their time writing e-mails, reading websites, visiting social networks and even working during the jouney. According to the statistics, the system is mostly used on Fridays.
In March 2013 there were 30,000 connections to the system, which increased to nearly 450,000 in December. Last year this number was over 2 million in total.
