FX debt “modern slavery”, says government official
Washington, DC, March 17 (MTI) – Countries across the world suffer from one or another form of “modern age slavery”, Katalin Novák, state secretary at the human resources ministry, told MTI on Thursday.
Speaking on the sidelines of a United Nations conference on the subject in New York, Novák said one of those manifestations was indebtedness in a foreign currency, and noted that Hungary’s troubled forex debtors were a grave problem.
Novák said she had informed the participants about the Hungarian government’s measures to help borrowers and said such problems could be best prevented through education.
Novák noted that those present had shown a special interest in Hungary’s programmes aimed at providing free meals to children in creches and kindergartens.
