German automotive industry EUR 32m investments in Kecskemét
Berlin (MTI) – Two German car part manufacturers will implement investments with a combined value of 10 billion forints (EUR 32m) in Kecskemét, in central Hungary, in the spring, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Friday, after talks in Stuttgart.
One of the two firms based in Baden-Wuerttemberg will expand capacity while the other will make a green field investment, he said, without revealing their names. The investments will create 160 jobs, he added.
The Hungarian government will provide 1.2 billion forints in support to the two projects, Szijjártó said adding that further details would be announced within a month.
Szijjártó said he held talks with Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche and board member for production and supply chain management Markus Schafer. They said Daimler is satisfied with its operation in Hungary and sees the country as a long-term partner.
The sides agreed to try to expand and develop their cooperation, he added.
Hungary’s government is launching big energy and road infrastructure projects in Kecskemet and the region, and it is strengthening its cooperation with Daimler in the areas of education and research, Szijjarto said.
Daimler opened its 1 billion euro plant in Kecskemét in the spring of 2012. It started making compact B-class models, but added the CLA coupe to the product palette in 2013 and the CLA Shooting Brake in 2015. More than half a million vehicles have rolled off the line at the plant.
