Government allocates more than EUR 75m for opera house renovation
Budapest, August 23 (MTI) – Hungary’s government is allocating 23.2 billion forints (EUR 75m) for the renovation of the Hungarian State Opera House in 2016-2018, a resolution published in the latest issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows.
The investment will involve the renovation of the building’s facade and the restoration of interior ornamentation as well as an upgrade of stage equipment and improvements to audience comfort.
The opera house is slated to reopen by May 24, 2018, according to the resolution.
The building was designed by Miklós Ybl and inaugurated in 1884.
