Green LMP proposes ban on plastic shopping bags
Hungary’s green opposition LMP party has said it will submit a bill banning shops from distributing plastic shopping bags from 2020.
Plastic bags should be replaced with products made of sustainable materials such as linen or cloth, Máté Kanász-Nagy told a press conference on Wednesday.
Modern life is becoming increasingly unsustainable, he noted,
adding that Earth Overshoot Day, which marks the date when humanity has used more from nature than the planet can renew in the entire year, is coming earlier each year, and this year falls on Aug. 1.
For that matter, Antal Csárdi of the green LMP told a joint press conference on Tuesday that they want government measures to ensure that people caring for sick family members are paid a “fair allowance” adjusted to the current minimum wage level.
Home care should also qualify as work performed under employment and the period of care calculated towards pension payments, he said.
