The Republic of Guinea reiterated on Wednesday its constant and unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
In a press statement following his talks in Rabat with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, held on the sidelines of the 2nd Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in a Francophone Environments, Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans Abroad, reaffirmed his country’s firm, constant, and unwavering position regarding Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
On this occasion, Kouyaté recalled that Guinea has always stood alongside the Kingdom of Morocco and has steadily supported its territorial integrity and sovereignty over all of its territory, including the Sahara region.
He also reaffirmed his country’s support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the only credible and realistic solution to this regional dispute, specifying that this support is part of the growing international consensus around the initiative, driven by the momentum initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The head of Guinean diplomacy welcomed the historic adoption, on October 31, 2025, by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2797, which enshrines, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as the only serious, credible, and lasting basis for achieving a political solution to the artificial dispute over the Sahara.
This determination was reaffirmed during the 8th session of the Morocco-Guinea Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita and Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, and Guineans Living Abroad Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté.
During the session, the two ministers welcomed the excellent centuries-old ties of friendship, cooperation and solidarity between the two countries, as well as the mutual esteem and respect characterizing the relationship between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Mamadi Doumbouya.
Following an in-depth review of the state of bilateral cooperation, they reiterated their shared determination to elevate the Morocco-Guinea partnership to a strategic level, based on mutual interests, shared prosperity and sustainable development, and to make it an exemplary and innovative model of South-South cooperation.
While welcoming the vision of the Guinean President embodied in the “Simandou 2040” program, Bourita underscored Morocco’s readiness to share its development experience with Guinea, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
He also expressed the Kingdom’s readiness to contribute to the implementation of the program, particularly in priority sectors such as strategic infrastructure, security, fisheries, healthcare, industrial and agricultural processing, food security, skills development, water management and energy.
Furthermore, the two sides welcomed the strengthening of the legal framework governing their bilateral cooperation through the signing, during the 8th session of the Joint Cooperation Commission, of 25 cooperation agreements covering a wide range of sectors, including the economy, finance, air transport, customs, agriculture, energy, tourism, justice, healthcare, meteorology and climatology, ports, housing and urban planning, sports, culture, handicrafts, higher education, scientific research and innovation, as well as academic scholarships and vocational training.
The two ministers reiterated their commitment to ensuring follow-up on the implementation of this enhanced legal framework, with a view to further consolidating the privileged relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Guinea.
