(MTI) – The west Hungarian city of Gyor will host the Under-16 Chess Olympics from December 12 to 22 this year expected to draw a record number of participants, organisers said on Tuesday.
Gyor won the right to host the prestigious event in the recent Tromso Olympics.
The Hungarian Chess Federation (MSSZ) decided to bid for hosting the 2020 Chess Olympics, MSSZ president Miklos Sesztak, the national development minister, told a press conference in Gyor.
So far 20 teams have entered for the under-16 Olympics, Sesztak said, adding that he expected 500 to 650 participants.
The field will include medal-winners of the previous Olympics – India, Turkey and Russia, he said.
