A terrifying discovery has shocked families in Gyömrő after nails and other suspicious objects were found hidden inside sweets collected by children during Halloween trick-or-treating. Police have launched an investigation into at least three reported cases.

Nails found in sweet treats given to children during Halloween

Halloween celebrations in the Liget Residential Park in Gyömrő, Pest County, have taken a disturbing turn after several families discovered dangerous objects hidden inside sweets collected by children during the annual trick-or-treating event.

According to an announcement published by the local municipality, a young girl received a sweet containing a nail on the evening of 31 October. Fortunately, she spotted the metal object before eating the treat, avoiding a potentially serious injury.

Nail hidden inside a milk caramel

The municipality said the sweet was particularly suspicious because it had been wrapped in chocolate packaging but actually contained a milk caramel with a sharp nail concealed inside. Officials said the circumstances suggested the act was deliberate. The town administration subsequently filed a police complaint against an unknown perpetrator and urged parents to carefully inspect all sweets collected by their children.

However, the incident may not have been an isolated case. Gyömrő Mayor Szabolcs Kisberk told Hungarian tabloid Blikk that further reports had emerged from the residential community. According to the mayor, at least three separate cases involving suspicious sweets had been identified, writes Blikk.

In addition to the nail hidden in the caramel, another sweet reportedly contained an object resembling a broken plastic screw. A foreign object was also discovered inside a coconut-flavoured sweet. The incidents have raised serious concerns among local families, as Halloween trick-or-treating has become an annual tradition in the residential park, home to several thousand people.

Police investigating suspected attempted grievous bodily harm

The Monor Police Department has launched a criminal investigation against an unknown suspect on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. Police confirmed the investigation in response to media inquiries but declined to provide further details, citing the interests of the ongoing inquiry.

The municipality has urged parents to thoroughly examine all Halloween sweets collected by their children, paying particular attention to damaged, unusual or suspicious packaging.

Anyone discovering a potentially dangerous object in a sweet is advised to contact the Gyömrő municipal office and the police immediately. Authorities hope the reported incidents are limited to the local community, but the investigation remains ongoing.
