Hell unleashed at Hungarian psychiatric clinic: Patient seriously injured in brutal attack

A patient has been taken into police custody after allegedly attempting to kill a fellow patient at the Szeged psychiatric clinic on Thursday afternoon. The incident, which resulted in severe injuries, has prompted a criminal investigation for attempted murder.
Police: Victim sustained serious injuries
Authorities confirmed to Hungarian News Agency MTI and Szegeder that officers were called on Thursday following reports of a violent attack inside one of the wards at the University of Szeged’s Psychiatric Clinic. According to the Csongrád-Csanád County Police Headquarters, a patient receiving treatment assaulted another patient, causing serious injuries.
The suspect was detained at the scene, and an investigation was launched on suspicion of attempted homicide.

Incident reportedly involved attempted strangulation
Local outlet Szegeder, citing a reliable source, reported that the attacker allegedly tried to strangle the other patient. The incident is believed to have occurred in the late afternoon, with police still on site conducting forensics well into the evening. Officers also remained at the facility on Friday morning.
University: No staff negligence detected
The University of Szeged issued a statement emphasising that both patients had been treated with “great care and attention” in line with national and international medical guidelines, as well as Hungarian legal standards.
According to the institution, the internal notification chain functioned properly, and based on the information currently available, no negligence occurred on the part of the clinic’s staff. Medical and professional protocols were respected throughout the incident, the statement said.
Investigation underway
Police have not released further details regarding the conditions of the victim or the motives behind the attack. The case remains under active investigation.
