According to szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu, the reopening of TIT Budapest Planetarium became uncertain, because the building was heavily damaged by trouble-makers after the Hungary-Romania European Championship qualifier.
After the match, police forces pushed back the hooligans from Groupama Arena towards Nepliget, where the crowd of thousands vandalized the building. The ultras dismantled the steps of the building and hurled its stones, smashed the safety equipment and make the cameras and antennas unusable – the institution said.
The rowdy caused huge, yet not measurable damages to the institution, Hungary’s only major planetarium. The area before the main entrance is full of broken glass and there are banned totalitarian symbols on the wall of the building.
The institution would have opened on September 14, but it cannot be visited in this condition.
After the match, three vandals were sentenced to prison because of armed violence committed against a public official.
Two other fans received two-year suspended sentence.
