How much money did the government spend on national consultations?

Antal Rogán from the cabinet office spoke about how much money the Hungarian Government spent on national consultations in the past four years.

Azonnali reported that the first major national consultation was launched in 2017. They asked the opinion of Hungarian citizens on what they think about the political relationship of Brussels and Hungary. Similarly to other consultations, the costs were the following: printing for 235,000 EUR, manufacturing the envelopes for 3M EUR, and another 2,700 EUR for letters with Braille writing.

The government also agreed with the Ministry of Interior to send thank-you-letters for 140,000 EUR.

In the following months, Hungary asked the opinion of citizens on George Soros allegedly intending to bring illegal immigrants into the country. Sending the letters cost 5M EUR and printing them was also more expensive, approximately 437,000 EUR, while Braille envelopes came with a dropped price of 1,570 EUR.

In 2018, the government’s next consultation about Hungary’s family policy cost around 6M EUR.

The most recent coronavirus consultation was launched to get public opinion on whether Hungary should keep the epidemic precautions in the future, and on how to restart the economy. Producing the consultation papers was around 5M EUR and printing them almost reached 550,000 EUR.
