Two workers were killed in a fire that followed a huge explosion at a site in Mohács on Tuesday, prompting police to launch an investigation into negligent endangerment committed in the course of employment resulting in death, the Baranya County Police Headquarters said on Wednesday afternoon on the police.hu website.
Police said they received a report on Tuesday afternoon that an explosion had occurred in a wood-storage facility at an industrial site in Mohács. Powdered wood material, believed to have been near the base of the fuel-supply system, caught fire and sent flames 15 metres into the air, police.hu wrote.
Three workers caught in the path of the blaze suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. Two of them died after being taken to hospital, while doctors were still fighting to save the life of the third, police said.
Officers have launched criminal proceedings, with the assistance of experts and the occupational safety authority, to establish the precise circumstances of the workplace accident. The investigation is being conducted on suspicion of negligent endangerment committed in the course of employment resulting in death, according to the statement.
