Hungarian consulate in NY hosts photo exhibition on Holocaust survivors
A photo exhibition paying tribute to survivors of the Holocaust has opened at Hungary’s consulate general in New York.
The pictures of 10 survivors taken by photographer Ildi Herman were put on display to mark the Day of Hungarian Holocaust Victims. The artist told MTI that she had been inspired by the story of her own grandmother while she interviewed and photographed her subjects in New York.
“It was an honour that they received me in their homes and told me about those events, which, after so many years, was still a shock; the conversations often ended up in tears,” Herman said.
The exhibition opening was attended by six of the people in the photos.
