Hungarian defence minister visits NATO headquarters in Norfolk
Budapest (MTI) – Defence Minister István Simicskó held talks at the NATO Allied Command Transformation headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia at the start of his four-day visit in the US on Tuesday, the defence ministry said.
He met Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Admiral Manfred Nielson, the ministry said in a statement. They discussed plans for Hungary to host a NATO Transformation Seminar with the participation of top NATO officials in March 2017.
Simicskó said at the talks that “being devoted allies, we continue to consider it important to further strengthen close transatlantic links”.
On Wednesday, he is scheduled to deliver the opening speech at a symposium on Hungary’s 1956 anti-Soviet revolution at the National Defense University in Washington, DC and then open, with US Ambassador in Hungary Colleen Bell, an exhibition about the 1956 revolution at the Pentagon, the ministry said.
