A lesbian kissing scene is shown in an animated Netflix series for children. The National Media and Communications Authority (NMHH) has opened an investigation.
The Hungarian media authority has launched an official investigation, citing the Anti-Pedophile Act adopted last year. The problem is caused by the fairy tale Jurassic World: Cretaceous Camp, in which one of the main characters, in the 9th episode of season 5, confesses her love to another girl. They then kiss each other, Magyar Nemzet reports. The story is rated 7+. The cartoon is about the adventures of children stranded on an island full of dinosaurs.

Several people have complained to the NMHH. “Netflix is a company registered in the Netherlands, which is subject to Dutch classification rules, and under Hungarian legislation, only media service providers offering radio and television media services are obliged to classify programmes in the age category, while in the case of so-called on-demand media services (streaming services), media service providers are obliged to classify programmes in the age category from 2010. Under Act CLXXXV of 2010 (Media Act), effective technical solutions must be implemented to ensure that programmes not recommended for minors under the age of eighteen and containing pornography or extreme and gratuitous violence are not accessible to minors, the NMHH will notify the Dutch Co-authority about the same-sex love story,” the NMHH says.
In Hungary, the anti-pedophile law referred to in the NMHH’s complaint was passed in 2021, telex.hu reports. The law prohibits, among other things, the presentation and promotion of homosexuality and gender reassignment to children under 18.
