The new Hungarian invention called Gris was awarded in the IF Design Award Competition in Hannover – Szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu reported. The invention was developed by Alberto Vasquez, a student at Moholy-Nagy University of Art (MOME). Actually, the Gris is not his first development that the public noticed. This Prize-winner invention is able to collect 90% of our bathwater to reuse it for the toilet. Honestly, it really does matter that we use 40 liters of clear or gray water for the toilet.
Gris was invented as a school project and tries to find a solution for the problems of the developing countries. The name of this excellent invention means grey in Spanish in association with grey water. Although Hungary is rich in spring water, there are a lot of other countries where water-saving methods are highly important. South-American countries are good examples for this where huge amounts of water are continuously wasted due to outdatedusage of water. However,it is utmost important to save water since it is not infinite.
In Columbia, for example, the biggest problemfor the families is how to pay the water charges. Since the climate is hot, people would take a shower 2-3 times a day. Furthermore, Columbia is one of those countries which have wasted the most: people there use about eight-ten liters of clear water for each toilet pulls.
According to the Passzívház Magazine, grey water is a result of washing hands or clothes. Then a specific UV system cleans the grey water from all bacteriaand micro-organism for its re-use.
The invention of Alberto Vasquez may help solve the water shortage. As it can be seen in the pictures, the 4- tank system collects the water we used for having a shower, thus it won’t go down the drain. After collecting it, the water can be re-used again for cleaning purposes and even for sprinkling flowers. Each tank can collect 10 liters of water, thus their measure is 10-13 kilograms which can easily be moved.
Due to the design of the Gris invention, it could collect 90% of the grey water. Moreover, its rough surface is antiskid and suitable for having a shower.
The most important element of this invention is that Gris is very simple and easy to use, so it will not cause complications in the everyday life of its users, simply because there’s no need to install it in the bathroom. It’s a tiny, handy practical gadget. Moreover, Gris is not expensive due to its low cost of production, so its usage could easily spread among the population.
