Swimming champion: My father abused me physically, mentally, and sexually — VIDEO
Liliána Szilágyi, a 25-year-old European Championship silver medalist, was interviewed in a Hungarian show. For the first time, Szilágyi spoke honestly about her childhood. She shared the horrific events that happened to her on social media. Szilágyi says that her father, former Olympic swimmer Zoltán Szilágyi, regularly abused her, her mother, and her sister in several ways.
Her father abused the Hungarian athlete
Liliána Szilágyi was a guest on the show Elviszlek Magammal (I’ll Give You a Lift). She said that
her father, the former Olympic swimmer, Zoltán Szilágyi, abused her and her mother as well.
Liliána Szilágy has wanted to let go of this burden since she was 12 years old. Since 2016, she has also consulted with lawyers and psychologists who helped her process what had happened, index.hu writes.
On her social media sites, she describes having to watch her father beat her mother to a semi-unconscious state several times. In addition, punishments and spiritual terror were part of the daily life of the Hungarian athlete. Liliána Szilágyi said that her goal was not to seek revenge but to draw attention to domestic violence and help victims.
“I was abused. Namely by a man from whom I should have received the greatest love and acceptance. My father abused me. Physically, spiritually, sexually, from my childhood,”
Liliána writes on her social media.
Liliána’s father denies the allegations
Liliána Szilágyi’s father, Zoltán Szilágyi, sent a letter to the press. The former Olympian is currently working as a lawyer.
Zoltán Szilágyi denies the allegations.
Szilágyi puts it this way: for the first and last time, he will defend himself in public. He got in the limelight because of his daughter’s public statements and the criminal proceedings. According to Zoltán Szilágyi, it will turn out in court that he is right anyway. And everyone else who knows them knows this, writes origo.hu.
“Each of your false words is a knife in my heart.”
Szilágyi also stated that he no longer supports his daughter or Liliána’s mother financially. Finally, he concludes his letter by saying that Liliána should use her mother’s family name because he thinks it is not justified for her daughter to call herself Liliána Szilágyi anymore.
