Hungarians buy more home produce
Budapest, March 21 (MTI) – More Hungarians are buying home-produced food products with as many as 3 million customers insisting to buy domestic food products only, Farm Minister Sandor Fazekas told a press conference today.
According to ministry data, 30 percent of customers will buy only Hungarian products, and 50 percent will buy the Hungarian product if there is no price difference with alternatives. Fully 70-75 percent of customers said they consciously look for home-produced items in shops, Fazekas said.
The minister said that the share of Hungarian products on shelves has risen from just over 50 percent in 2011 to 70-85 percent recently, according to a fresh survey.
The number of farmers’ markets rose from 50 four years ago to 117 and the number of farmers producing food for the domestic market grew from 5,000 in 2010 to 11,000, he said.
