Hungary and Vatican share views on Ukraine peace

Foreign Affairs Ministry of Hungary Hungary Ukraine Vatican war in Ukraine

Hungary and the Vatican State share the same views on peace in Ukraine, the protection of families and the support of Christians, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in Vatican City on Wednesday.

Szijjártó met Bishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the head of Vatican diplomacy, the ministry said.

The minister said Hungary and the Vatican agreed that the war in Ukraine must end as soon as possible.

“Unfortunately, international politics is replete with war rhetoric, criticism and stigmatisation of those promoting peace, but that shouldn’t intimidate us,” he said.

“We shall concentrate on brokering peace and offering our help as mediators or as hosts of peace talks; the world can always count on us,” Szijjártó said.

Szijjártó said he also discussed with Gallagher the protection of families, which both countries see as an “important strategic question”.

They also discussed support for persecuted Christian communities, counting some 360 million people worldwide, he said.

Hungary continues to support persecuted Christian communities, and has co-funded the reconstruction of churches in Mexico and Lebanon, he said.

Hungary has spent in the past years some 100 million dollars on supporting Christian communities worldwide, he added. “We helped some 1 million Christians in 60 countries in returning home or remaining in their homeland,” he said.

Szijjártó also had talks with Bishop Claudio Gugerotti, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, which focused on the difficulties of Eastern Catholic churches.

“We continue to support Christian communities in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan in living in peace in the areas where their forefathers had lived for many centuries,” he said.

Szijjártó also visited the tomb of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI who died on December 31.

  1. Saint Pope John Paul 11 - WISDOM Words to Hungary 1991: says:
    26/01/2023 at 12:57

The Hungarian – Head of the Hungarian Holy Roman Catholic Church – Cardinal Peter Erdo, has remained continues WRONGFULLY – “Passively” quite, from his Palace in Esztergom, through this Russian War on the Ukraine.
The greater concern for Hungary, the baptized into the Holy Roman Catholic Church of Hungary, represented by 43% of the 9.5 million in population of Hungary, is the ON-GOING – code of SILENCE – from the Cardinal, of Hungary’s position in this Russian War on the Ukraine and the COLLAPSE – the on-going HUMONGOUS decline of peoples life qualities in Hungary, through the DIRECTION – the DICTATORIAL direction, that its present – Prime Minister – Victor Orban led Government – is sending Hungary.
Communism and the Catholic Faith – not a PLEASANT History.
Cardinal Erdo of Hungary – should come out of his COMFORT zone – and take a position for ALL the citizens of Hungary.
Cardinal Erdo – should read AGAIN the words used by Saint Pope John Paul 11 – when preaching to Hungary in Hero’s Square – his first visit in 1991, post 1989 – the words of WISDOM – granted Hungary by Saint Pope John Paul 11.
Cardinal Erdo – is literally INSULTING – not displaying SUPPORT – to the spoken WISDOM of words in 1991 to Hungary, in the Pontifical Mass held in Hero’s Square – the celebrant being as he was then – Pope John Paul 11.
Cardinal Erdo – one of his HERO’S – is Saint Pope John Paul 11.
SPEAK he MUST – Cardinal Erdo – for not just the Hungarian Baptized Catholics but for Hungary – instead of HIS “toe the line” of the Hungarian Government, its POWER & Control over the Holy Roman Catholic Church of Hungary.
The MASSIVE differance in character and LEADERSHIP – that in these times of similarity to those under the Cardelnealship of Hungary by Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty – 1946-1975, a “voice” would have been HEARD powerfully from the palatial Cardinals Palace in Esztergom.
The Foreign Minister of Hungary – Peter Szijjarto, his visit to the Vatican City, the subject of this article, the “Fall Guy” for the present Prime Minister of Hungary & his Government – Victor Orban – statements that he has made to the Vatican, these penetrative STATEMENTS – and OTHERS – on the CURRENT collapsing of Hungary, should be coming out of the Palace of Esztergom – the palatial residence of the Cardinal of the Holy Roman Catholic Church of Hungary – Peter Erdo.
Saint Pope John Paul 11 and Cardinal Josef Mindszenty – would NOT be SILENT, being PASSIVE, doing as told – the adapted and discussed position practiced carried out by Cardinal Erdo.
“Cardinals that enter a Conclave thinking they will be become Pope, leave as a Cardinal.”
Is this – in the Cardinal Erdo mind set?
Does he think he is Papabile?
God forgive us – another Right Hand Conservative and MASSIVE supporter of TRADIONAL Catholicism.
