Budapest, April 19 (MTI) – Hungary’s highest mountain, Kékestető, in northern Hungary, was covered by 10cm of snow on Wednesday, the national weather centre (OMSZ) said on its website. High winds have also disrupted parts of the country.
Sleet and snow has been reported at various points such as the northern mountains and in eastern areas, with depths of 30-50cms in some parts and 1-7cm of snow remaining overnight in lower reaches.
The weather has caused serious delays in railway and urban transport, with up to 30 minute delays on eastern railway lines and public transport delays in Budapest.
The police have cancelled a 24-hour speed control campaign, dubbed Speedmarathon, announced by the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL), due to bad weather.
