Hungary is developing cutting-edge AI technologies as well as a data economy with the use of high-performance supercomputers, László Palkovics, the innovation and technology minister, said on Thursday.

Speaking at the Eötvös Loránd University Savaria University Centre in Szombathely, in western Hungary, where he inaugurated IT developments worth 688 million forints (EUR 1.9m), Palkovics said 70 percent of Hungarian manufactured products resulted from high-tech processes, and Hungary was approaching Germany in this regard.

“To maintain, or even increase, this level, we must carry on drawing on serious know-how and financial resources not only in all areas of the economy, but in education and research, too,”

he said.

In Szombathely, he added, local leaders made it clear that there was an urgent need to make advances in technical higher education and to start engineering training, and this initiative was headed by Csaba Hende, a local Fidesz MP and one-time minister, he said.
