The number of asylum-seekers was up at nearly 20,000 last year, representing a nine-fold increase from previous years when it averaged 2-3,000, the paper said.
The highest number of applications for refugee status were submitted by Kosovans, Pakistanis, Afghans, Algerians and Syrians. Experts now also project a wave of refugees to arrive from Ukraine.
The paper said, however, that the majority of refugees consider Hungary only as a transit country on the way to Germany and France.
