Hungarian deputy speaker reaffirms support for Azerbaijan during official visit

Sándor Lezsák, Hungarian parliament’s deputy speaker, has paid an official visit to Azerbaijan, Parliament’s press office told MTI on Friday.

During the three-day visit, the sides discussed relations between the EU and Azerbaijan, the office said. At the meetings, Lezsák asserted that Hungary will not support any proposal in the EU in the future that would harm the interests of like-minded countries like Azerbaijan and the Turkic states.

In Nakhchivan, Lezsák and leaders of the Neumann Foundation based in central Hungary’s Kecskemét discussed further cooperation possibilities with the rector and representatives of the State University. Plans include organising an international scientific conference entitled “What has János Neumann contributed to the world?”.

In Baku, Lezsák held talks with Sahiba Gafarova, chairwoman of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, who reaffirmed the importance of the two countries’ strategic cooperation in practice and indicated that she saw new opportunities in expanding inter-parliamentary ties.
