Hungary’s brand new price monitoring system kicked off: here is how it works

The Hungarian government’s brand new price monitoring system began operation yesterday. The initiative aims to combat the record-high inflation resulting in growing dissatisfaction. The new system shows and compares the prices of 60 food products in more than 1,200 shops in Hungary. Here is how it works.

According to index.hu, the price monitoring system is available for everybody via the Internet, so you can learn easily where to buy the cheapest milk, pork meat, Trappist cheese or bread in your settlement. The system monitors the prices of 60 food products in 1,200 shops of six retail chains. These are Lidl, Tesco, Spar, Auchan, Aldi and Penny.

You can open the website via THIS link, but unfortunately, it is unavailable in English. However, even a Google Translator can easily translate the needed, simple Hungarian food products names. Considering the toolbar, you can choose from the following categories:

dairy products, cheese, eggs;
meat, sliced meat;
vegetables, fruits;
bread;
sustainable food.
