The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar, under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of the Republic of India, and Széchenyi István University, Győr, Hungary, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of an “Academic Chair” in Ayurveda at Széchenyi István University.

The MoU was signed on 23 September 2026 to coincide with Ayurveda Day at Embassy of India by Prof. Dr. Eszter Lukács, Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relation and Dr. Angéla Somogyi, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences on behalf of the Széchenyi István University and the Ambassador of India to Hungary on behalf of the Ministry of Ayush.

The MoU represents an important step in strengthening and developing cooperation between India and Hungary in the field of traditional systems of medicine, with a particular focus on the academic promotion and dissemination of knowledge relating to Ayurveda.

The Academic Chair will function under the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences of Széchenyi István University and is envisaged as a platform for fostering academic engagement, knowledge exchange and institutional cooperation in the field of Ayurveda.

The collaboration between ITRA, Jamnagar, and Széchenyi István University will provide opportunities for enhanced interaction between scholars, academics, researchers and students, and contribute to a greater understanding of India’s rich traditional system of medicine in Hungary.

The establishment of the Academic Chair also reflects the growing interest in India’s traditional knowledge systems and holistic approaches to health and well-being, and provides a new avenue for India–Hungary cooperation in the field of healthcare education and research.
