The Indian community in Budapest recently celebrated the 10th Budapest Ganesh Festival, bringing together Indian families, devotees, Hungarian friends and people from different cultural backgrounds for a colourful celebration of faith, tradition and community.

The celebrations were made possible with the valuable support of Om Vishwa Guru Deep Hindu Mandir, Budapest, which has provided the Indian community with a spiritual and cultural space to come together, celebrate Hindu festivals and keep Indian traditions alive in Hungary.

10 Years of Ganesh Celebrations in Budapest

The seven-day Ganesh Festival, held from 14 to 20 September 2026, featured traditional prayers, daily Aarti, devotional bhajans, cultural performances and Mahaprasad at Om Vishwa Guru Deep Hindu Mandir.

One of the highlights was the Ganesh Visarjan procession, featuring traditional Maharashtrian Lezim, Shivgarjana, Garba, devotional music and enthusiastic chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya!”

The celebrations concluded with Ganesh Visarjan at Kopaszi-gát, Budapest, where families and devotees gathered to bid an emotional farewell to Lord Ganesha.

Beyond its religious significance, the festival gave children and younger generations growing up in Hungary an opportunity to experience Indian traditions and remain connected to their cultural roots.

Keeping Indian traditions alive in Hungary

Speaking on behalf of the organising team, Vinod Dhaygude said:

“The support of Om Vishwa Guru Deep Hindu Mandir has been very important for our community. Having a dedicated place where families can come together for prayers, festivals and cultural activities helps us keep our traditions alive in Hungary. It also gives our children an opportunity to experience and understand the culture we grew up with.”

The Mandir has become an important gathering place for the community, supporting religious and cultural celebrations and helping create a stronger connection between generations.

At the same time, the celebrations are open to the wider community, giving Hungarian and international friends an opportunity to experience India‘s traditions, devotional music, dance and community spirit.

The organisers warmly invite Indian families, Hungarian friends, devotees and everyone interested in Indian culture to join the upcoming Navratri celebrations.
