Jobbik demands Roma leader’s removal over alleged corruption
Budapest, November 26 (MTI) – The radical nationalist Jobbik party has called on the prime minister to “remove from politics” Florian Farkas, Viktor Orban’s commissioner for Roma affairs.
Spokesman Adam Mirkoczki told a press conference on Thursday that “what is supposed to be integration of the Roma in Hungary is actually outright theft without any integration”.
The activities of the National Roma Self Government (ORO), of which Farkas is a former leader, are “the manifestation of (ruling) Fidesz’s arrogant policies”, Mirkoczki said.
ORO and Farkas are associated with “blackmail, bribery, intimidation and a series of thefts,” Mirkoczki said and insisted that Orban himself was responsible as he had appointed Farkas to his current post. Unless the prime minister dismisses his commissioner, it will demonstrate that he does not disapprove of the “scandalous crimes” and considers Hungary’s Roma as “cheaply available voting machines”.
