Jobbik Nominates Budapest Mayor-Candidate
Budapest, August 1 (MTI) – Radical nationalist Jobbik on Friday nominated MP Gabor Staudt as the party’s mayor-candidate for Budapest at the upcoming municipal election, a party official said.
Addressing a press conference, Gyorgy Szilagyi said that the party in 2010 had hopes that the Hungarian capital could “lift off the ground” after Liberal mayor Gabor Demszky had stepped down but added that “it has not happened”.
Staudt suggested that there should be no opposition between Budapest and the provinces and said that everyone would benefit from a stronger capital.
He said the party would largely promote its 2010 Budapest programme in the upcoming campaign. Staudt was mayor-candidate of the party four years ago.
