Kover expects 2014 parliamentary elections to confirm unification of Hungarian nation
(MTI) – The parliamentary elections of 2014 are expected to confirm the unification of the Hungarian nation in terms of public law, house speaker László Kövér said on Friday at the Forum of Hungarian MPs from the Carpathian Basin (KMKF – Kárpát-medencei Képviselők Fóruma). Jobbik did not sign the statement of the Forum of Hungarian MPs from the Carpathian Basin.
Hungary faces general elections that will be historically important from the point of the nation, Kövér said. Never before had there been a possibility for all Hungarians living in the Carpathian Basin to vote in the Hungarian parliamentary elections, holding general, equal, direct, secret and democratic voting rights, he added.

Commenting on the 2014 European Parliamentary elections, he said the most important task from the point of policy for Hungarian communities abroad is to increase the number of ethnic Hungarians MEPs from the Carpathian Basin.
Foreign State Secretary Zsolt Németh told MTI after the meeting that next’s year Hungarian elections could serve as feedback on the government’s efforts to unite the nation. It is a basic interest for national policy that turnout should be as high as possible in the election, he said. He added that for Hungarians living outside Hungary it is of decisive importance that a strong Hungary is behind them, as the stronger it is, the better it can represent their interests as well.
The Forum adopted a statement at the end of their session, which declared that the Hungarian nation in a political sense has grown by 500,000 people taking Hungarian citizenship. The participation of Hungarians beyond the borders in Hungary’s general election will make the unification of the Hungarian nation in terms of public law complete, the statement said.
István Szávay, a delegate of the Jobbik party, said his party did not sign the statement as it was just another “list of problems without solutions”.
The Forum of Hungarian MPs from the Carpathian Basin set up in 2004 to consult with Hungarian lawmakers and MEPs in the countries of the Carpathian Basin on current issues affecting Hungarians.
