Sunny, hot weather is expected throughout next week, with a brief spell of cooler conditions in the middle of the week. Showers and thunderstorms may occur in isolated spots at the beginning and end of the week, according to a forecast by HungaroMet Zrt sent to the Hungarian news agency MTI on Sunday.

Monday will be largely clear and dry, although cloud cover may increase from the west during the afternoon. There is a small chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm moving in from the direction of the Alps. Southerly winds will occasionally freshen across the north-western Transdanubian region and the Northern Hungarian Mountains, while remaining mostly moderate elsewhere. Temperatures will rise to between 31 and 37C.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with some high and cumulus cloud. Showers and thunderstorms are likely only in a few places, chiefly in the west, south-west and north-east of the country. North-westerly winds will freshen across an increasing number of areas and may become strong in places. Morning temperatures will generally range from 16 to 22C, although it will be warmer near the water, in elevated areas, city centres and the Kisalföld region. Afternoon highs will reach 32 to 38C, with the hottest conditions expected in the Great Plain.

Wednesday will bring predominantly clear or sunny skies and dry conditions. Northerly and north-easterly winds will freshen in several areas and may become strong at times, particularly east of the River Tisza. Morning temperatures will generally be between 17 and 24C, while afternoon highs are expected to range from 27 to 34C, with the lowest readings in the north-east.

Warming starts in the second half of the week

Thursday will be clear or sunny and dry. North-easterly winds will freshen mainly in the eastern half of the country. Temperatures will range from 9 to 19C in the early hours and from 28 to 33C in the afternoon.

Friday will remain clear or sunny, with no rain expected. North-easterly winds may freshen in places across the eastern and north-eastern parts of the country. Overnight lows will range from 8 to 19C, while daytime temperatures will reach 30 to 35C.

Saturday will continue to be largely clear, sunny and dry. Winds will be light or moderate and variable in direction. Temperatures will fall to between 8 and 20C overnight before rising to 31 to 36C during the day.

Sunday is expected to be mostly clear or lightly clouded and sunny. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the north-west. Southerly winds will freshen, with temperatures rising from 10 to 22C at dawn to between 32 and 38C in the afternoon.
