LMP co-chair promotes changing Dublin Rule
Brussels (MTI) – The migration crisis is a global problem which must be tackled in the countries where it has its roots, the co-chair of the green LMP party said in Brussels on Friday.
Andras Schiffer participated at a meeting of leaders of European green parties who discussed migration and an upcoming key climate change summit in Paris.
The United States, Russia and some western European countries have a major role in developments in the Mediterranean, Schiffer told MTI.
“The aggressive militant policies aimed at seizing various resources in the region is one of the triggers of the current migrant crisis,” he said.
As long as leading European companies hope to make economic gains from migration, the chance of restoring stability in affected Asian countries is slim, he added.
He said the European greens agreed on the need of joint European-level action, and proposed redesigning the Dublin regulations.
Regarding the climate change summit in Paris in December, Schiffer said that “the climate killing criminal multinational companies, the likes of Exxon or Shell, must not be allowed to take part in the talks, because the greens do not want to assist in wiping them clean.”
He said the summit must work out concrete plans on effectively fighting climate change.
