Lufthansa is to join the scheduled Pécs–Munich service launched in March as an official codeshare partner, making travel between Pécs and the rest of the world simpler and quicker for passengers making connections, it was announced at a press conference in the Baranya county seat on Wednesday.
Lufthansa helps passengers from Pécs
Scheduled flights resumed at the airport in Pogány, a small settlement south of Pécs, which is capable of handling medium-sized aircraft carrying 50 to 100 passengers, at the end of March this year. In cooperation with Germany’s Skyhub PAD and Danish Air Transport (DAT), passengers are carried twice a week — on Monday and Thursday afternoons — on the Munich–Pécs–Munich route, the Hungarian News Agency (MTI) wrote.
Márk Dragovácz, head of Pécs-Pogány Airport Operating Ltd, said that from Monday, Lufthansa will offer connections to the Pécs flights from Munich under its own flight numbers, with through-checked baggage and guaranteed connections, and rebooking in the event of delays.

This makes more than 50 European destinations via Munich accessible from Pécs, as well as dozens of other airports worldwide with a single transfer, with passengers served by 26 partner airlines in addition to Lufthansa. Tickets with Pécs as the point of departure can be booked through Lufthansa’s official channels and ticketing partners, Mr Dragovácz said.
He told MTI that the flights had so far operated at an average load factor of around 50 per cent, but with the new option now available, a marked increase in traffic — and possibly even an expansion of services — can be expected.
Pécs airport aims to reach major destinations
Csaba Ruzsa, deputy mayor of Pécs, said the city’s longstanding priority had been to ensure that, from the airport opened in 2003, major European destinations — and even Asian and overseas ones — could be reached easily. Until now, that had not been possible.

By the end of May, the municipality wants to establish a support club to help secure the long-term future of the Munich–Pécs flights, involving businesses, service providers and tourism interests from Baranya and southern Transdanubia, including health-tourism operators. The University of Pécs and the Pécs-Baranya Chamber of Commerce and Industry have already made commitments in this regard, he said.
The company head told MTI that Pécs-Pogány Airport Operating Ltd, which is 51 per cent owned by the Hungarian state and 49 per cent by the Pécs municipality, and employs 25 people, closed 2025 with a net profit of HUF 11 million on net revenues of HUF 91 million. It had previously received around HUF 240 million in state support and HUF 155 million in municipal support for developments serving scheduled services.
