Prime Minister Péter Magyar has announced what he described as the revival of the Visegrád Cooperation (V4), revealing that the prime ministers of Poland, Czechia and Slovakia have accepted his invitation to meet in Hungary later this month.

In a Facebook post published on Thursday, Magyar said the leaders of the four Central European countries will gather in Budapest and Gödöllő on 23 June.

“We are reviving the Visegrád Cooperation,” the Hungarian prime minister wrote, adding: “Let’s work together for a strong Central Europe!”

Summit to focus on renewing regional partnership

According to information shared by the government, the upcoming summit will focus on renewing partnership among the member states and strengthening joint cooperation after a period of strained relations within the group.

The Visegrád Group, commonly known as the V4, brings together Hungary, Poland, Czechia and Slovakia. Established in 1991, the alliance has long served as a platform for regional cooperation on political, economic and security issues.

The planned meeting in Hungary is expected to provide an opportunity for the four prime ministers to discuss common challenges and identify areas where closer cooperation could benefit the region.

Building a stronger Central Europe with V4

Talks will centre on the goal of creating a stronger Central Europe through renewed collaboration among the four countries.

The summit marks the first major V4 gathering since Péter Magyar took office as Hungary’s prime minister. By bringing together the leaders of all four member states, the meeting could be a fresh attempt to revitalise one of Central Europe’s most important regional alliances.

The gathering will take place in Budapest and the nearby town of Gödöllő on 23 June.
