Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita was received in audience on Friday in Bamako by His Excellency Army General Assimi Goita, President of the Transition and Head of State of the Republic of Mali.
During this meeting, held on the sidelines of the 4th Morocco-Mali Joint Cooperation Commission, the Head of State has reiterated its “position in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region,” while reaffirming its support for the Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco as “the only credible and realistic solution for resolving this regional dispute.”
The Joint Communiqué “reiterated the Republic of Mali’s support for the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, as well as for the Autonomy Plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, as the only credible and realistic solution for resolving this regional dispute, in accordance with Resolution 2797 adopted on October 31, 2025, by the United Nations Security Council.”
This position follows on from the Malian government’s Declaration of April 10, 2026, announcing the Republic of Mali’s official withdrawal of its recognition of the so-called separatist entity “sadr”.
The 4th session of the Joint Cooperation Commission between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Mali was held on July 21-24 in Bamako.
His Excellency Army General Assimi Goita, President of the Transition and Head of State of the Republic of Mali thanked His Majesty King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s steadfast and unwavering stance in support of the sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Mali.
The Malian President also welcomed the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two countries, while expressing his gratitude to His Majesty the King for His multidimensional support for Mali.
He also commended the strong bilateral relations and expressed the Republic of Mali’s willingness to work with the Kingdom of Morocco to further strengthen cooperation across all sectors.
