A man in his twenties has been arrested in Hungary after allegedly attacking two police officers and a service dog during an incident at his home in Komárom-Esztergom County.
The man was reportedly behaving aggressively and damaging property inside his home when police were called to the scene. He was subsequently detained on suspicion of violence against a public official and attempted grievous bodily harm. A court ordered his detention on Friday following a motion by the Győr Regional Investigative Prosecutor’s Office, the Hungarian News Agency reported.
Man attacked officers and police dog
Four police officers arrived at the man’s home and told him that he would be taken to hospital by ambulance for a medical examination. However, the man allegedly refused to cooperate and instead became aggressive towards the officers and the service dog deployed at the scene.
Despite being ordered to stop, he allegedly punched two officers several times, kicked one of them twice and also attacked the service dog. Police eventually managed to restrain him by using tear gas before handcuffing him. He reportedly continued to resist even after being detained.
Two officers injured
The confrontation left two police officers injured. One suffered a head injury and bruising to the hip, while the other sustained a skull contusion. A specialised unit from the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Police Headquarters and Hungary’s National Protective Service also assisted with the arrest at the request of the investigative prosecutor’s office.
The suspect was taken into custody and questioned as a suspect but did not make a statement. He did not file a complaint against the charges brought against him.

Suspect previously convicted of drug offences
The case is being treated particularly seriously because the man had previously been convicted several times of drug-related offences. According to prosecutors, he allegedly attacked the police while still serving the probationary period of a suspended prison sentence.
The offences he is suspected of committing – taking the applicable cumulative sentencing rules into account – carry a potential prison sentence of between one and seven and a half years. The investigative prosecutor therefore requested his detention, arguing that the circumstances justified the measure. The court granted the request on Friday.
